Buy Cheap New Chevrolet
Until the company was renamed and regrouped in early-2006, Chevrolet had been trading under the Daewoo Cars name. Of
course, Daewoo was the South Korean carmaker that had changed the face of vehicle retailing in the UK, with its "no
haggle - no hassle"" promise and its three-years' customer service packaging that included a three years warranty,
three years roadside recovery and three years free servicing. Although originally established in the early-1980s to
supply a range of cut-price Pontiacs to allow General Motors to compete with a growing number of uncontrolled Oriental
imports into North America, the Holden-supplied body shells and Family Two engine line-up aged very fast and the
Korean company decided to turn its back on its GM benefactor. Yet, despite an incredible growth rate, Daewoo was
affected negatively by an economic crash in its home market and its House of Cards established across several West,
East European and 3rd-World markets soon crashed, leaving its founder on-the-run having embezzled an enormous sum of
money from the company. GM meanwhile hovered on the sidelines and, when the price was right, it stepped in to provide
the life-line. One-time UK Managing Director of Vauxhall Motors, the much-respected Nick Reilly, was installed as
Director of the business and one of his key decisions was to introduce the Chevrolet name - up to that point known
only as a North American brand - which would now represent the budget-priced, value-added line-up of GM products to
the rest of the world.
