Why choose Porsche Boxster?
Although Porsche dabbled with a mid-engined sports model in the 1960s - the 914/6 - regardless of the classical attraction and fondness developed for that model in more recent times, it was never sold in any large quantities in the UK and those versions that did arrive were all left-hand-drive. It was produced primarily for North America and left-hand-drive markets. Its close relationship to some Volkswagen products was never more obvious and it even carried the VW logo in its name, because it was sponsored by the company. However, when the Boxster was launched, it was to take over from the out-gone 968 front-engine, rear-drive model. Although many observers bemoaned the fact that the Boxster lacked the visual excitement of the show car that had done the circuit for the two previous years, the new car was welcomed by enthusiasts, who appreciated a price lower than that of the 911 and also a stunning range of driving strengths that included phenomenal handling, a supple ride quality, delicious steering and a performance graph that was not too far removed from that of the marginally heavier 911. That the Boxster immediately gained a reputation for a stronger residual value than even the 911 was much to its credit and merely served to enhance its undoubted popularity. The model remains a stalwart (since 1996) of the Porsche range, despite undergoing a minor reskin and several power enhancements as a result of satisfying customer demands. Consultation with Toyota helped the company to reduce costs, which were then passed onto the customer.
