NEW CITROEN DS3 ANNOUNCED
A brand new model range known as the Citroen DS3 is launching in Frankfurt at the motorshow in September. The car maker expects the DS to be a direct competitor for the highly popular Mini Cooper and Fiat 500. The new generation Citroen C3 forms the basis for the DS, which is available in Citroen dealer showrooms from 2010; the DS design remains very similar to the conceptcar seen at the '09 Geneva motorshow. The Citroen DS body has a glass back without pillars and at 3.9 meters length and 1.7 meters across, it is dimensions are more like that of a Fiesta. Buyers can individualise the body and cabin: the roof can be black, white, blue or red and mirrors can be finished in bodycolour or chrome. The dash offers 6 different choices and there are 5 gearlever colours - even the ignition key is colour-coded! There are 5 motors: a 1.6L HDi (90PS with 99 gkm of CO2 or a 110PS). The petrol units offer 150PS, 120PS and 95PS. The new Citroen DS3 has a 280L bootspace, much more than a 500 or Mini, and according to Citroen, it is a true 5 seater. A new Citroen DS4 arrives in 2011 a bigger MPV DS5 in 2012. The new Citroen DS3 is available from Spring 2010 and buyers can expect pricing to be highly competitive.
NEW CITROEN C3 PICASSO
The latest offering from Citroen is the new C3 Picasso; a small yet well-designed MPV. The Citroen C3 Picasso sits alongside the similarly priced yet much larger Xsara_Picasso and Berlingo Multispace. You may well ask how the Citroen C3 Picasso justifies its relatively higher price? The Berlingo is basically van-derived (and feels like it in every way), whilst the XP will be drawing its pension before too long. The Citroen C3 Picasso is simply a better and totally up to date car; not just in looks or dynamics, but in concept. The build quality and drive are also much improved: you could almost misake it for a Golf! The cabin is a masetrpiece, with the rear seats folding beneath the floor quickly and easily (a child could do it). Citroen has done well to make it reasonably entertaining to drive with relaxed road manners and decent engines. Four powerplants (2 petrol, 2 diesel) mean that the range offers a maximum 60 mpg - which is not bad at all. Whilst the petrol unit delivers more than 40 mpg on a 60 mph run. The new Citroen C3 Picasso pricing begins under £11500. Agreed, that's more than an equivalent Note or Meriva, however the new Citroen C3 Picasso is arguably a superior car in several key areas.
