BUY, FINANCE OR LEASING QUOTE - UK NEW CARS - NO CAR IMPORTS

A Rolls-Royce is instantly recognisable around the world. Many people may not recognise or recall instantly the current model lineup, but it is guaranteed they will know the name. Rolls-Royce has always been associated with luxury, prestige and wealth. When Henry Royce and Charles Rolls combined and established their car company in 1906, they produced the first motor car in Manchester. This was prior to relocating to Derby three years later, whilst their sights were undoubtedly set high, Mr Royce would make them and Mr Rolls sold them, observers still wonder at whether they realised how famous their iconic name-conjoined brand would become. There were plenty of other carmakers starting up around the world at the same time Rolls-Royce was incorporated. Limited production whilst a postive for exclusivity, ultimately led to the company's near-destruction. Each car was predominantly hand-built, and these skills enabled the company to branch out into aerop engine manufacturing (developing the advanced Rolls-Royce RB211 jet engines). Rolls-Royce filed for bankruptcy in 1971 but due to the strategic importance of Rolls-Royce, it was nationalised by Edward Heath's government and this allowed various projects to be completed. The Rolls-Royce car company was sold in 1973 as a separate entity, then Vickers (a non-auto business) acquired all rights in 1980. Those rights led to an inter-company dual between Volkswagen and BMW in 1998, which was finally resolved in January 2003, when Rolls-Royce Motorcars became BMW owned, whilst VW concentrated on the Bentley subsidiary (Rolls-Royce acquired Bentley in 1931).
