10th January 2010. Audi is unveiling a brand new super mini - the A1 - based on the new generation Polo. Its target is clearly Mini - and to achieve this, the new A1 will shoehorn every Audi acomplishment into a compact car fewer than 4m in length. Ingolstadt hopes the A1 will bring a whole army of new owners into the Audi family. It is likely that the first actual pictures will be seen this February when for the first time, the Audi A1 is unveiled over the web. Then its motorshow debut will be in Switzerland at the Geneva show this April. Audi is aiming at a yourger car buyer - so it will launch sites on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. Then in May, Audi’s head of Research and Development Mike Dick will host a live online Q&A session. Initially, the 3dr model will be introduced, then the 5dr A1 Sportback soon afterwards. Audi says there will be cabrio - then an SUV version to be called the Q1. Audi UK dealers expect the first cars to arrive by September this year and prices are though to start at £10995 - before the Audi discount is applied. At this price, Audi can expect the A1 to become a massive hit, with long waiting lists.
New Audi service - it's Google!
8th January 2010. Audi and Google have got together offering a "Google Earth" service available on the all new Audi flagship, the A8. Audi has combined the Google feature with its Satellite Navigation equipment - clever stuff. Drivers have 3D satellite images, information on the terrain and layer support (eg to add web search information and transportion routes over the map). There is even a Panoramio service and local search if businesses within the service. Impressively drivers can email directions from a PC straight to your car screen - so the route is calculated by the time you reach the car! Spooks or what? Google already reaches users at home, in the office, on a mobile device - and now its right inside the only remaining communications location - the car: once all these systems become fully integrated and the information freely exchangable (via cloud computing), it is perhaps hard to see how any rival could possibly prevent Google controlling our world - and all the information within it!
NEW AUDI A8 (2010)
5th January 2010. Ingolstadt’s flag ship limousine will rival the BMW 7-series, the Mercedes S-class and the new Jaguar XJ. The latest A8's aluminium body is 24% more rigid than the old model - and the super low kerb weight enables quite incredible fuel economy. The new Audi A8 includes night vision with pedestrian recognition function, adaptive Xenon headlights which synchronise with the Navigation, adaptive cruise control that can bring the A8 to a complete stand still and (believe it or not) speed limit detection! If that wasn't enough, you get a lanechange warning, park cameras, a B&O 1400w HiFi system (with 19 speakers). The new Audi A8 is a huge motor car: 5.14m long, 1.95m wide and 1.46m tall. Inside, you find the finest imaginable quality leather, which adorns almost every surface. A centrally mounted colour screen slides out as though it were on a silk runway. This is a highly sophisticated car that belies its dimensions with sleek looks.
