BUY, FINANCE OR LEASING QUOTE - UK NEW CARS - NO CAR IMPORTS

Suzuki is known as much for motorbikes as its cars; rather like Honda. However, unlike Honda, Suzuki didn't manage to hang on to its independence. General Motors part owned Suzuki, which enabled the N American company to sell the Geo range (student cars). However, Suzuki is a lot bigger than many observers seem to understand and it Suzuki currently operates 15 automotive factories in 14 different countries. Suzuki is represented by more than 130 distributors within 120 countries. When Mr Michio Suzuki first established his silk loom manufacturing business in 1909, little did he realise his company would be integral to the development of a motor industry - producing a first small Suzuki car. World War Two intervened and the potential for Suzuki car production temporarily ceased. But by 1952, a small capacity engine of a clip-on type successfully turned pedal power into a low-cost moped and this gave Suzuki its next small step into the automotive market. Two years later, the Suzuki bike company was producing 6,000 moped units a month. In 1955 just a year later, the Suzulight, a microcar with front-wheel-drive appeared. Suzuki was on its new pathway. General Motors commenced business links in 1981 and Suzuki started to make "own label" motor cars (as food manufacturers do for different supermarket chains) in several markets. By 1998, the Suzuki/ GM relationship grew into a strategic partnership, but this was diminished in 2006, when General Motors sold its shares back to Suzuki Corporation (this followed pension upheaval in GMs domestic market); Whilst GM's share reduced to around 3% of Suzuki, the Japanese car and motorcycle maker is stronger than ever.
