Jaguar has been owned by Tata of India since 2008. But Jaguar is said to have been the main contributing factor to Ford Motor Co's major losses in 2006 (Jaguar never having returned a profit during Ford's 17 years of ownership). Despite Ford's best attempts to turn Jaguar, ostensibly a small British carmaker, into a mass volume producer, were in vain. Jaguar is a brand that appeals to a more discerning and exclusive market. It is now generally agreed that Ford should have concentrated on Jaguar's qualities. The XF model has transported Jaguar back into the "Pace with Grace" arena and it remains to be seen which direction Tata now takes with this iconic British brand.
