A new facelift Volvo C30 will be announced Germany's motorshow in Frankfurt this month. Both the nose and tail are new with a fresh design which takes its cue from the recent S-60 (conceptcar) and new C-70 models. Bigger airintakes follow the XC60 lines, whilst nose improvements include a new look for wings and bonnet - with a honey comb ventilation grille; all of which are in line with new Volvo family architecture first seen this year. The tail is also new with optional colour coding to the rear bumper. Volvo C30 customers can choose a Sporting chassis set up which the car manufacturer says gives the new C30 taughter handling and ride (though this feature is not available on the DRIVe stop-start diesel models). Improvements to the steering with 10% quicker response time, stiffer springing (by some 30%) and damping. Volvo makes the exhausts pipes extrude on both T5/D5 powered cars, whilst a vivid new colour (metallic orange no less) is now available, setting off the the high-polish stainless_steel pipes. ...tes. The diesel engines range from 107PS to 177PS, with the petrol motors offering 99PS upto a massive 227PS. The diesel DRIVe eco C30s are 1.6L with a stop-start function averaging 72 mpg emitting 104 gkm CO2, whilst non stop-start C30s deliver 63 mpg and 119 gkm. The new Volvo C30 facelift will be available in Volvo car dealer showrooms from Spring 2010 and though exact new Volvo C30 prices are yet to be announced, they will start at under £15,000 on the road after Volvo deals and discounts are applied.
New Volvo S80 D5 Review
Though a Volvo S80 wouldn't necessarily be your first choice of large saloon, you should look at the revised, lightweight and re-styled model. More precise handling and much more power has made the Volvo S80 a genuine rival for the E Class, A6 and 5 Series. Ignoring brand value for now, the Volvo S80 D5 SE Lux Premium model has a big spec, great performance and road holding - at an unbeatable price. Volvo has made subtle changes to the S80 appearance with a new grille and chrome detail adding to the fresh look. The new range-topping D5 motor is a peach: in manual form, 2.4L, twinturbo, 5-cyl unit generates 202PS and 310 lbft of torque via the frontwheels, whilst more than 45 mpg is possible with 164 gkm: the automatic manages the 0-60 mph sprint in 8.5 seconds and the CO2 reading is 178 gkm. All this power is delivered without fuss or torquesteer; the new Volvo S80 is refined and would make a superb long distance tourer. If you are looking at the car rather than the badge, a new Volvo S80 would make a sensible purchase.
VOLVO C-30 "NEW ELECTRIC CAR"
Volvo says it's developing a new C-30 powered only by electricity, though it claims no present plans to build it. The car maker from Sweden will display a working all-electric C-30 within its Innovation for Life show, due to be held following the Frankfurt Motorshow. Volvo sources say “The new C-30 is a motorcar we desribed before forming a foundation for the Recharge concept model developed some years ago. “One of the vehicles to be displayed at Innovation for Life is an electric powered C-30 which can and will be demonstrated on the road.” For the current time, the new C-30 powered by electricity remains a conceptcar and Volvo says it has no immediate plans to place it into factory production. “This is a development car forming part of our evaluation process that may enable us to make a firm committment decision at some stage. “At this time, Volvo isn't giving consideration to factory build programme.” Volvo will introduce a new V-70 with diesel hybrid technology within two years, this C-30 with just battery technology could become a further stage in development along the low-carbon path.
