New Hyundai IX35 - Tuscon Replacement Announced
The new Hyundai ix35 was initially a concept car at Geneva last March at the motorshow; the new model is replacing the whole Tucson range. The ix35 is to be seen in full production form in September's Frankfurt show. Hyundai intends the ix35 to compete against the Golf, Focus and Qashqai crossover. In Eurospec, the ix35 look differs from domestic versions. Euro versions have different headlight design, more chrome detail and rear LED lights. The ix35 shows us Hyundai's new fluid sculpture on which all forthcoming Hyundai introductions will follow. Aggressive looks will include a hexagonal shaped grille. Hyundai says the ix35 will offer improved fuel economy and fewer emissions placing it well ahead of competitor SUVs, and meaning that SUV costs will be more in line with standard hatches. The Euroix35 was designed at Hyundai's technical centre in Germany. Buyers can choose either 2WD or 4WD, but most will opt for the front driven 2WD models (Hyundai thinks 95% of sales will be 2WD). Hyundai will continue its strategy of providing more for less, being lower cost than either a Tiguan or Kuga - and offering many more options as standard than a Qashqai. A new 1.6L turbo motor with 168PS will offer 149 gkm CO2; remarkable for a turbo petrol powerplant. Hyundai will also introduce a new 2.0L diesel motor offering lower emissions and higher-power. Euro ix35s are to be constructed by the Slovakian factory operated by sister company Kia which will make its new Sportage model there. The new Hyundai ix35 will arrive in dealer showrooms in March next year with competitive pricing from £15,995 OTR, before discount.
